Batch of 1993 makes pledge to KGP campus workers in the name of fallen batchmate

The Inter Hall (Inter Generation) Quiz Finals which were a culmination of a series of intra-hall quiz competitions and fundraisers by IIT Kharagpur alumni were held on June 27th. The best 14 quiz teams, across 70 years, came together to battle it out over quiz to raise funds for the "IITKGP Directors Fund for Campus and Vicinity Staff due to COVID-19". The event was a continuance of the fundraising campaign that has been in place since April. It featured six quiz "masters" (Ustad Zakir Hussain, Siddhartha Basu, Harsha Bhogle, Vikas Swarup, Arundhati B and Giri Pickbrain) and was a huge success that brought in over 800 pledged donations. After the competition had finished, the Batch of 1993 came forward to make an additional donation to the COVID-19 fund in the name of their fallen batchmate, Ajay Kumar Singh. Ajay graduated from IIT-Kharagpur with honors in 1993 and applied for IPS. In 2000, in a cruel twist of fate, his life that was filled with possibilities of endless service for the nation was snuffed out in one blinding moment of violence. He lost his life in the line of duty bravely fighting Naxalites in an area near Ranchi. His indomitable spirit lives on, and the batch of 1993 from IIT Kharagpur have honored his memory.
