Information provided by Dr. Pallab Dasgupta, Professor-in-Charge of ACFA (September 19, 2021)

On September 19, 2021, the Academy of Classical and Folks Arts held a lecture-demonstration under the GKF (Guru Krupa Foundation) series. The event featured Sitar Maestro Shri Purbayan Chatterjee presenting 'The Gayaki style-Vocalization of Instrumental Music'. Chatterjee talked about the style of instrumental music where the instrumental rendition imitates the vocal style, and additionally embellishes it with ornaments that are unique to instrumental music. This style, which is called the Gayaki style, has many challenges. In his naturally eloquent style, Purbayan-ji explains some of the finer nuances of this art with beautifully melodious demonstrations.
