IIT Kharagpur Researcher Develops Smart Manufacturing Technology for Industrial Partner

IIT Kharagpur doctoral researcher Avishek Mukherjee has developed a new AI-based software iWeld to detect defects in welding from the radiography images taken of an object. The software has already been commercialized and transferred to Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited. 

 

The software, tested over a large number of samples at GRSE, was found to provide results that were 93.18% accurate. The product was developed at the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing Technology under the supervision of Prof. Surjya K Pal. Read More

 

The centre was established with support from the Department of Heavy Industry of the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India, along with a consortium of top industry members in the country with the aim to stimulate innovations in smart machine manufacturing in the capital goods sector. It has specialty areas including Specialty Materials, Design and Automation, Additive Manufacturing, Digital Manufacturing, and the Industrial Internet of Things.
