The Entrepreneurial Journey of IITKGP Law School Alum and Young Alumni Achiever Awardee Madhumita Agrawal

Madhumita Agrawal is the Co-Founder & CEO of Oben Electric, an e-Motorbike manufacturing company. Her passion for new and evolving technologies led her to start a second venture, Oben EV, an electric two-wheeler company. Prior to Oben, she founded IPexcel in 2016, a global technology research and advisory organization, which today is a self-funded, multi-million dollar revenue business catering to Fortune 500 organizations, MNC’s, and technology start-ups across 10 countries.
Born to a middle class family in Odisha, Agrawal graduated with a degree in biotechnology and then enrolled in IITKGP’s law program. IITKGP’s law program completely changed her outlook and took her on the path of entrepreneurship. She gives credit to this experience at IITKGP, asserting that “...the programme was designed for engineers or those with a technical background. It helped us specialize in intellectual property and patents. Also, the IP system was picking up at that time with a lot of push from the government. Technology and innovation consulting organizations became the need of the hour.” As a result of her dedication and hard work, she won the Young Alumni Achiever Award in 2019.
Agrawal did not have it easy as a female entrepreneur in a male dominated industry. She commented to Indiatimes that as “a woman entrepreneur, there are certain problems that I face. First, people don't believe you till you justify what you are trying to hard sell. This is for every woman who is in the tech domain. I feel that being a woman, I have to give that extra shot to convince the other stakeholders.”
