IITKGP VGSOM Student K Murugappan’s Summer Internship at Morgan Stanley in Mumbai

IITKGP Foundation

K Murugappan is originally from Chennai, India. He completed his undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from SSN College of Engineering, Chennai. Upon graduation he worked at Soliton Technologies Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore, where he was part of a team developing new software. He says that when he was evaluating options for graduate schools, he found “VGSoM to be the right fit due to two major reasons; the value for the quality of education and the great alumni network.”

Morgan Stanley is a regular recruiter on the IITKGP Campus and has hired VGSOM students as interns for many years. According to Murugappan the summer internship placement process starts just one month after the beginning of school and so being a part of the VGSoM induction process for new students helped him immensely to come out of his shell and make connections.  The VGSoM Student Induction program is an annual practice to get the junior batch acquainted with the MBA student life and lasts a week. It is spearheaded by the VGSoM Student Council in collaboration with the Cultural Committee involving the senior batch organizing a set of activities and contests that serve as an ice breaker for the new students, but also encourages them to present themselves and build brand new friendships. Muruguppan participated early on in the program in the Drishtee Capital Club (“the equity research club”) and Tech Club of VGSoM, which according to him was pivotal in securing an internship at Morgan Stanley.
