Memorable Meeting with Sundar Pichai and Family: A Heartfelt Tribute by IITKGP Director Tewari

IITKGP Foundation

What a pleasure it was to meet Shri Sundar Pichai and dear Anjali in San Francisco on July 19th at Google headquarters! The entire experience still feels surreal, as your presence left a profound impact on our hearts. Your humility and visionary leadership continue to resonate with us deeply. The historic 100-minute ceremony, during which you were honored with the DSc Honoris Causa and Anjali with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, was a moment of immense pride for me and indeed for the entire country. This interaction will forever be etched in our memories, especially as it was shared with your parents and your daughter Kavya.

The joy and pride in your parents' eyes were palpable, particularly your father's, who was deeply moved by seeing you receive the DSc Honoris Causa and Anjali the Distinguished Alumnus Award. It was as if a long-cherished dream had been fulfilled, and I was grateful to witness such a heartfelt moment. Your mother, who has undoubtedly been a driving force in your family's journey, expressed profound gratitude to the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, for this recognition, which made the event even more special.

As you watched the video we prepared to relive your days at IIT Kharagpur, it was evident how much joy it brought to both you and Anjali, taking you back to the nostalgic classrooms of the KGP campus from 30 years ago.

Your interaction with our esteemed alumni, Vinod Gupta and Ron Gupta, was a delight. Their passion and unwavering support for the growth and development of IIT KGP are truly inspiring. I’m sure they cherished those moments with you just as much as we did.

Your graciousness and exceptional leadership shone throughout the event. A true gentleman by gesture and a great leader by nature, I wish you, Anjali, and your entire family a future filled with happiness and prosperity. Please convey my warm regards to your proud parents—they are indeed wonderful individuals.

I also want to express my gratitude to your team at Google, especially Mr. Jason Post, for his seamless coordination with my office. The impressive decoration and the vibrant display of the IIT KGP logo, which greeted us so warmly, were truly impressive and made us feel incredibly welcome.

Lastly, I want to express my deep appreciation to my colleagues, Prof. Rintu Banerjee, Deputy Director, and Prof. Debashish Chakravarty, Dean of Alumni Affairs, and our beloved alumni Vin and Ron for their invaluable support and cooperation, which were crucial in making the event a resounding success.

Looking forward to welcoming you to IIT Kharagpur!
