IITKGP Foundation
The European Design and Automation Association (EDAA) has honored Professor Subhasish Mitra with the EDAA Achievement Award 2025, recognizing his groundbreaking contributions to electronic design automation (EDA), robust computing, and NanoSystems. Professor Subhasish Mitra received his Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 1996.
A distinguished professor at Stanford University, Dr. Mitra holds the William E. Ayer Endowed Chair Professorship in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He leads the Stanford Robust Systems Group and plays a key role in national and international research initiatives, including the Microelectronics Commons AI Hardware Hub and the Stanford SystemX Alliance.
Dr. Mitra’s pioneering work in robust computing has led to key advancements in circuit failure prediction, system validation, test compression, and resilience to soft errors, with widespread adoption in cloud computing, automotive systems, and manufacturing. His X-Compact test compression method, a major industry standard, has enabled cost-effective and high-quality testing of modern electronic systems, saving the industry billions.
In the field of NanoSystems, Dr. Mitra and his collaborators have achieved multiple firsts, including the development of the world’s first carbon nanotube computer, groundbreaking 3D NanoSystems, and energy-efficient computing using Resistive RAM. His innovations have been featured on the cover of Nature, highlighted in the U.S. Congress, and recognized globally as major scientific breakthroughs.
His exceptional career has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Harry H. Goode Memorial Award, Newton Technical Impact Award in EDA, and the Intel Achievement Award. He is a Fellow of ACM and IEEE, a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea, and a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Kharagpur.
With this award, EDAA acknowledges Dr. Mitra’s transformative impact on the field, joining an illustrious list of past recipients who have shaped the future of electronic system design.
The European Design and Automation Association (EDAA) is dedicated to advancing education, research, and collaboration in electronic design automation. As the main sponsor of the Design, Automation and Test Conference and Exhibition (DATE) in Europe, EDAA continues to foster innovation in the global electronics community.
