Global Honors for IIT Kharagpur Alumni:
Subir Chowdhury and Ved Gupta Recognized

During the IITKGP Director Suman Chakraborty and his team’s visit to the United States last month, two distinguished graduates of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur were recognized for their achievements and impact across industry and society.

At the PAN IIT 2026 conference in Long Beach, Subir Chowdhury received the Lifetime Fellow Award in person, which was awarded in 2024. The lifetime fellow award Life Fellow Award is a prestigious honor bestowed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur upon distinguished alumni or faculty for exceptional contributions to their fields and the institute.

Subir has shaped the global quality movement through his visionary leadership as Chairman & CEO of ASI Consulting Group. Widely recognised as the “Quality Prophet” and among the world’s most influential business thinkers, he has transformed organisations worldwide, driving impact at scale. Subir is also the author of The Power of Six Sigma and other influential works that brought quality methodologies to a wider audience. 

Beyond his professional achievements, Subir's deep commitment to philanthropy through the Subir and Malini Chowdhury Foundation has advanced education and healthcare initiatives for underserved communities worldwide. One of these was the establishment of the Subir Chowdhury School of Quality and Reliability at IITKGP and is open to all IIT students who desire academic training in the concepts of quality assurance.

In a separate alumni event in New York City, Ved Gupta was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award (2025), presented by IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty. With over five decades of leadership in systems integration, project management, and enterprise IT strategy, Ved has built a distinguished career spanning executive roles at IBM, Lockheed Martin, and the U.S. Department of Defense. 

Equally dedicated to education and mentorship, Ved serves as an Adjunct Professor and Academic Coach with Montgomery College’s Achieving the Promise Academy (ATPA). He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Six Sigma practitioner, and ITIL Foundation professional. His professional excellence has been recognized with IBM’s Outstanding Achievement Award and Excellence Award. Ved’s legacy is defined by a powerful blend of technical and executive leadership, educational mentorship, and a steadfast commitment to empowering others

Together, these recognitions underscore the global influence of IIT Kharagpur alumni and their enduring commitment to leadership, innovation, and giving back.
