IIT Kgp startup invents tools to check quality of tea

Jalpaiguri/Kolkata: A technology developed by IIT Kharagpur-incubated agro-tech startup in collaboration with Tea Research Association (TRA) will revolutionise the process of quality checking of green leaves at factories across the tea-producing states in India. The technology, according to industry experts, will minimise all sorts of manual dependence and error in quality assessment.
The startup, Agnext Technologies, founded by Taranjeet Singh ('02), an alumnus of IIT Kgp and IIM Kolkata, and Mrigank Sharad ('10), assistant professor of IIT Kgp, has developed a fine leaf-counting software and a machine to detect percentage of green tea leaves. "In the machine, the leaf will drop from the top and its imaging will be done by a camera. The data will be fed into an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven software for processing and determining the fine leaf count. It will also help the industry benchmark its products at a very minute detail," said Singh. (Read More)
