IIT Kharagpur in association with IIT (BHU) and in collaboration with Georgia Tech had two very meaningful days April 22-23, 2019 where they shared joint and final review presentations on Indian Smart Cities and Smart Varanasi.

The three schools had been working on a semester-long studio course to develop and implement smart city updates that will best serve the people of Varanasi through transportation solutions, environmental protection, and economic stimulation. Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture and Regional Planning and Professor in the Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management (RCGSIDM), Joy Sen gave a lecture on "Concordances and Divergences in Indian Smart Cities--Lessons Learned (2014-Present)". Also in attendance at the event were Shailesh Lakhtakia, Consul (Head of Chancery), Consulate General of India, Anita E. J. Ninan, President, Georgia Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, and Subhro Guhathakurta, Professor and Chair, School of City & Regional Planning, Georgia Tech. Students of IIT-KGP that participated in the final reviews were Arpan R. Paul, Vidhu Bansal, Deepanjan Saha, and Armarjeet Kumar of the Department of Architecture & Regional Planning and Md Saddam, Sunny Bansal (recipient of the 2019 IITKGP Foundation US International Internship Award), Kuldeep Kavta (recipient of the 2019 IITKGP Foundation US International Internship Award), and Shivangi Singh Parmar of the Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management, IIT Kharagpur. The event was supported by Georgia INDO-US Chamber of Commerce USA and great contributions were made by Dr. Arkopal Goswami of RCGSIDM and Dr. Saikat Paul of ARP, IIT Kharagpur.
