FUTURE CITIES: A SMART INITIATIVE

IITKGP Gupta School of Infrastructure held a 2-day Symposium on "Future Cities: A Smart Initiative", at the Park Hotel in Kolkata from April 17-18, 2019. Over 100 participants attended discussion among over 20 speakers representing a dozen cities preparing for 'Smart Initiative' under the 'Future Cities' program. Cities/projects represented included Delhi Metro (DMRC), Nagpur, Davangere (Karnataka), Mumbai, Surat, Panaji, New Delhi, and Taipei. Also presented were projects in/by WBRT, Kolkata, Pune, Amaravati, NSDSI GOI, New Delhi, and New Town Kolkata.

Heading up the Airport division at GMR, Mr. Kamesh Rao, pointed out how GMR has been running airport projects in Delhi and Hyderabad. Mr. Debashis Sen, chairman of NKDA, presented a simple, but elegant way of developing New Town in the outskirts of Kolkata. Dr. Henry Chen talked about the use of Science and Technology in Taiwan for the economic and cultural centers.

"India has a growing need for good infrastructure, but the biggest challenge is about how to deliver these large scale infrastructure projects with quality, under budget and within the time schedule proposed," said Ron Gupta, Chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure at IIT Kharagpur.
