Dear Reader,

Arvind Jain ('69) and his wife Renu have established a Chair in the School of Medical Science and Technology (SMST) at IIT Kharagpur. This Chair will recognize, and reward selected faculty members in the position of Full Professor in SMST and additionally, at the discretion of the Director of the Institute, the Chair may be offered for a one-, two-, or three-year term to a new faculty member joining SMST from outside IIT Kharagpur. Thank you to Arvind and Renu for setting up this Chair for the advancement of the School of Medical Science and Technology at IIT-Kharagpur!

Due to rising Covid cases, the Annual Alumni Meet, celebrating the IIT-KGP batches of 1971, 1972, 1981, 1982, 1996, and 1997 has been postponed. The tentative date(s) of reschedule are March 10-13, 2022.

Dr. Dilip Shahani ('73) has been conferred with the esteemed Padma Shri Award 2022 for his contributions to the field of education in India.

IIT-KGP Professor of Geology and Geophysics, Abhijit Mukherjee, has been elected to join the council of the Geological Society of America (GSA). In the Society's 134-year history, he is the first South Asian councilor in its 12-month council.

The Dr. Nirni Kumar Memorial Best Student Award was instituted by Dr. Kumar's wife in his honor and will support the graduating B.Tech student with the highest CGPA overall from the Dept. of OE & NA.
