IIT KGP Friday Zoom meeting on 15 Sept 2023: DIPAK MAJUMDAR ON HIS TRAVELS IN CUBA

Greetings IIT KGPians:

Dipak Majumdar,  1967 B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, RK Hall, will be our Chief Guest and featured speaker at our Friday Zoom call on 15 Sept 2023.

Dipak will present his travel to Cuba in March this year. He was mainly interested in seeing how Cuba has fared under communist rule and the US embargo since Fidel Castro took over in 1959. Americans are not permitted to travel to Cuba for explicit tourism purposes under the Trading With the Enemy Act, administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. You must demonstrate that you’ve participated in activities that “strengthen Cuban society” to learn about Cuban culture, support Cuban entrepreneurs launching their privately-owned businesses, and promote independent activity intended to strengthen civil society in Cuba.
