IITKGP Honors Ajit Jain and Sundar Pichai with the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa)

IITKGP has announced that it will honor US-based alumni Sundar Pichai (B.Tech/Met.Eng/1993) and Ajit Jain (B.Tech./ME/1972) with the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) during its commencement this year to be held on December 17th, 2023.

Sundar Pichai is the CEO of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google. He was the Senior Vice President and Product Chief at Google where he supervised Android, Chrome, and Google Apps. During his tenure at Google he has launched popular products like iGoogle, Google Toolbar, Desktop Search and Gadgets, Google Pack, and Gears.

Ajit Jain is the Vice Chairman of Insurance Operations for Berkshire Hathaway. He then joined IBM in India, before moving to the US to earn his MBA from Harvard. Ajit worked for McKinsey after graduation and then moved to Berkshire Hathaway to work on insurance operations for Warren Buffett. Mr. Jain is currently Berkshire Hathaway's Vice Chair of insurance operations and a member of the Hathaway's Board of Directors. Warren Buffett has said many times that Ajit is one of the best minds in the world. During Berkshire Hathaway's annual meeting earlier this year, while addressing questions on artificial intelligence (AI), Buffett said that "there won't be anything in AI that replaces" Jain.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR DIASPORA CHILDREN [SPDC] FOR HIGHER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION IN INDIA (Deadline Extended: 24th December 2023)

SPDC scheme is a scholarship scheme of the Ministry of External Affairs to assist the Children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs)/ Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) who are pursuing Undergraduate courses (except medical courses) in Indian Universities/Institutes. The SPDC scheme provides them financial assistance towards tuition fee, admission fee and post admission charges.

Now, the Ministry has launched the SPDC Programme for the academic year 2023-24 for the Children of NRIs/PIOs/OCIs pursuing Undergraduate courses in several disciplines in India.
Eligible candidates for the scheme, may apply for the scholarship through SPDC portal (https://spdcindia.gov.in). The last date for submission of the duly filled-in application forms in the prescribed format has been extended till 24 December 2023.
