IITKGP is overall 5th in India and 59th in Asia in 2024 QS Asia Rankings

According to the latest edition of QS Asia World University Ranking for the year 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IITKGP) overall ranked 5th in India and 59th in Asia, The largest and first IIT of the country has made its entry in the top 7% in the QS Asia University Rankings with an overall score of 54.5.

Speaking on the QS Asia University Rankings 2024, Prof. V K Tewari, Director, IIT Kharagpur remarked, “IIT Kharagpur has upheld the nation’s resolve to excel the standards of globalization with advanced manufacturing systems and transportation, safety engineering and analytics, quality and reliability, affordable healthcare, precision agriculture & food nutrition and smart infrastructure to contribute towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat. As an institute of eminence, Technological Research Parks, Centre of Excellence, startup incubators, Lab to Market products and Nano Missions are the new local ecology for innovation and technological pursuits of our institute.”

The UK-based ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking 2024 for Asia features 148 Universities from India in the overall list which has 857 global Universities listed in total. There are 37 new entries from India compared to last year’s report, which is significantly more than only seven new entries from China. Peking University from China retains its top-most position, this year too. A total of seven Indian institutions feature in the top 100 ranks of QS World University Rankings: Asia; of which five are IITs, whereas other two include Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Delhi University. Being 4th among all the IITs in the country, IITKGP has performed well in parameters like international research network, papers per faculty, employer and academic reputation and staff members with PhD.

IITKGP Launches Guru Dakshina Program

On 30th January 2024 IIT Kharagpur launched the Guru Dakshina program in order to encourage the KGPians to give back to their Alma Mater. This program aims to inspire KGPians, both current students and alumni, to express their gratitude by contributing back to their Alma Mater. The passing out students will be requested to pledge One Month's salary/income that they can pay at their convenience during 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/nth year of their profession. Some students may like to take this pledge even during their 3rd year of studies at IITKGP or even earlier. Students who sign the  pledge form will be given a beautiful certificate which they can show in their testimonials while appearing for their first job interview and can display later in their office. A minimum donation of Rs 1 lakh will qualify the individuals for the Guru Dakshina Certificate. Please find the link of the Pledge form (Google Form link) below

50% of the funds received as Guru Dakshina will go to the IITKGP Corpus to make it Atma Nirbhar in the long run. 20% will go to TSG and that will be used for Spring Fest, Kshitij etc. 10% will go to their respective halls and 10% will go to their respective departments. Another 10% will go to a Welfare fund that can be used for emergencies of students, staff and faculty.
