
Distinguished IITKGP Alumnus Dr. Subir Chowdhury has been named to the the 2023 Thinkers50 Hall of Fame
According to the Financial Times, the Thinkers50 Hall of Fame list is considered the “Oscars of management thinking.” Distinguished IITKGP Alumnus Dr. Subir Chowdhury (B.Tech / Aero / 1989) has been nominated and ranked multiple times on this list and was finally named to its 2023 “hall of fame.” He was hailed by Business Week as “the Quality Prophet” and is one of the world’s pre-eminent experts on “quality” and process improvements. Dr. Chowdhury is a best-selling author on Six Sigma philosophy, with insightful research on how quality affects all levels of business function and public policy. Subir asserts that quality is a balance of people power and process power and that quality must be the responsibility of every individual in all organizations.
Dr. Chowdhury is chairman and CEO of ASI Consulting Group, a global leader on strategic initiatives, quality consulting, and training. He is an honorary member of the World Innovation Foundation (WIF), has been inducted into the Engineering, Science and Technology Hall of Fame, and honored by the Automotive Hall of Fame. With more than a dozen books and two decades as a consultant to many of the world’s largest organizations, Subir Chowdhury continues to contribute his distinctive ideas and insights to the world. His newest concept for process management systems — “Quality is Everyone’s Business” (QIEB)—has already found a following among both old and new clients. According to his personal website, he is a heritage collector of rare Indian art works by eminent Indian artists like Rabindranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Ramkinkor Baij, Abanindranath Tagore as well as western artists like Monet, Rodin, Renoir. He lives with his family in Los Angeles, California.
In 2017, IIT Kharagpur established the Subir Chowdhury School of Quality and Reliability— the first of its kind in the world to promote the education and research on quality that will transform society. This newly established school shall address the trinity of Process, Planet and People (PPP or 3P’s), targeting Engineered Systems, Natural Systems and Human Systems to cover the gamut of quality across all domains and shall work to establish standards for quality and reliability of these systems.
