IITKGP ka tempo high hai!

IITKGP ranked 5th in India and 59th in Asia in QS Asia World University Rankings 2024

IITKGP has ranked fifth in India and 59th in Asia, according to the 2024 edition of QS Asia World University Rankings. In a recent news release, IITKGP said that it made its entry in the top 7% of  the QS Asia University Rankings with an overall score of 54.5. The 2024 World University Ranking (Asia) by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) features 148 Universities from India in the overall Asia list which has 857 Universities from other countries in the continent. The institute has performed well in parameters like international research network, papers per faculty, employer and academic reputation and staff members with PhD. 

IITKGP has ranked first in Agriculture and Forestry, and Civil and Structural Engineering in the country, according to the QS World University Rankings 2023. The Engineering and Technology discipline at IITKGP ranked fourth in the country, and ranked 82nd globally. IITKGP also ranked second in Architecture and Built Environment, Material Science, Environmental Sciences, Accounting and Finance, Economics and Ergonomics, according to the rankings issued on Friday. 

Speaking on the QS Asia University Rankings 2024, IITKGP Director Prof.  V.K. Tewari said, “IIT Kharagpur has upheld the nation’s resolve to excel the standards of globalization with advanced manufacturing systems and transportation, safety engineering and analytics, quality and reliability, affordable healthcare, precision agriculture & food nutrition and smart infrastructure to contribute towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat.” He added, "IITKGP stands out from other IITs with its multi-modal curriculum nurturing creativity, capacity building, affordable healthcare and rapid technological amalgamation. As an Institute of Eminence, we have to acquire the opportunity in the digital economy space, fostering skill development and encouraging entrepreneurship,"  

Director Tewari also stated that IITKGP is gearing up to establish bridges with ISRO and futuristic technologies with DRDO in unmanned and robotic technologies, cognitive technologies and secure systems, among others. "We are also planning to steer ahead in areas like precision agriculture, energy storage systems, hardware security, hydrogen storage, quantum communication, additive manufacturing, 3D printing & composite manufacturing," Tewari said.

IITKGPF (USA) founder, serial entrepreneur, and philanthropist Vin Gupta (1967/B.Tech/AgE/RK) was awarded the honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) by IIT Jodhpur during its recent convocation ceremony held on November 21st, 2023. The award recognizes Vin’s many  accomplishments and profound contributions to the progress of human society and academic education in the USA and India. Vin has previously also been honored with a Honorary Doctorate from the University of Nebraska and IITKGP. Recognizing the role of education in developing the leaders of tomorrow, Vin has used his resources through his charitable foundation to help advance education across fields including: business, science, information technology, communications, intellectual property law and wildlife preservation. 

The Tagore Center Foundation (Houston, Texas) recently hosted its inaugural lecture of the Tagore Lecture Series. The event featured a lecture by Dr. Sumit Ganguly, the Tagore Chair in Indian Cultures and Civilizations at the University of Indiana, Bloomington, and was a celebration of the timeless wisdom and vision of Rabindranath Tagore. Founded by IITKGP alumni and IITKGPF (USA) President Dr. Asoke Deysarkar (1968/BSc/CY/VS & 1971/B.Tech/CH/VS) and his wife Dr. Ruma Acharya-Deysarkar (1968/Tech/CH/SN), who is also a IITKGP alum, the Tagore Center Foundation houses an Early Education Development Center, an Adult Education Center, a Visual and Performing Arts Center, an Open-Air Theater, an Art Gallery, and Fairgrounds. The foundation’s focus is on raising awareness and implementing Tagore’s inspirational global vision and ideals, promoting art, literature, philosophy, education, global socialization, understanding of diversity, and empowerment on an international scale.
