IIT Kharagpur launches cutting-edge MTech in Artificial Intelligence

IIT Kharagpur, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, has introduced a groundbreaking MTech programme in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Catering to industry demands, the program spans 4 semesters and aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the rapidly evolving field of AI. The institute says that the program is being offered because artificial intelligence is currently one of the most sensational domains across all sectors including healthcare, legal, and automobile among others. Upon completion of the MTech in artificial intelligence, students will be prepared to join the workforce directly or pursue PhD programs for cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence and machine learning with job placement opportunities.

The initial two semesters of the program will focus on building a robust foundation through theoretical courses and practical labs. Courses will include Machine Learning Foundations, Deep Learning, and Artificial Intelligence Applications. Students will have the flexibility to choose elective courses from a wide array of options provided by the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and other departments of IIT Kharagpur. The elective courses will include courses in Visual Computing, Big Data Processing, and Secure AI/ML, among others. The final two semesters of the program will be dedicated to project work and internships ensuring hands-on experience in real-world scenarios.

Students will be admitted to the program through the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) exam and students will need to clear papers in the following subjects: DA (Data Science Artificial Intelligence), CS (Computer Science), EC (Electronic and Communication Engineering), and EE (Electrical Engineering).

To support this program, IIT Kharagpur's AI4ICPS initiative has introduced CPS-PRAYAS, a startup incubation programme aimed at supporting early-stage AI/ML startups. IITKGP has established this AI & ML Technology Innovation Hub for Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (ICPS) under the aegis of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), DST, Government of India. The role of this unit is to do fast-paced technology translation through innovation and start-ups for AI adoption into the traditional CPS and industry. The initiative also includes the Entrepreneur in Residence (CPS-EIR) programme, nurturing budding entrepreneurs and fostering innovation in AI/ML technologies.

URGENT REQUEST FROM IITKGPF

The IITKGPF database has nearly 16,000 alums registered, yet 10,000 of those alums have not included important background information like residence hall, graduation year, or major in their profile. For us to be effective in connecting and engaging alumni across years and halls, it is important to have an accurate and complete database. With a number of important initiatives underway to help IITKGP stay world class, like updating the aging residence halls, we are seeking to update our database with this information.

We kindly request that you add your residence hall, graduation year, and major to your account. To do so,

1. Login to the foundation website

2. Once logged in, click on "Welcome" and then "Update My Profile"
