The Technology Students' Gymkhana (TSG) at IIT Kharagpur stands as the central hub for a wide range of extracurricular and co-curricular activities, from sports and socio-cultural events to technological innovations and student welfare initiatives. Since its establishment in 1952, the Gymkhana has been a vital part of daily life for every Kgpian, offering a dynamic environment where students can cultivate and develop their talents beyond the classroom.
Over the years, the Technology Students' Gymkhana has become a cornerstone of holistic student development at IIT Kharagpur. It provides a structured yet flexible platform for students to engage in activities that promote personal growth, leadership, and social responsibility. These activities are designed not only for enjoyment and relaxation but also to support the physical, mental, andemotional well-being of students, helping them to recharge and maintain a healthy balance between academic and extracurricular pursuits. Throughout the year, the Gymkhana organizes several flagship events, including sports meets, cultural festivals, technical expos, and leadership summits, attracting participants from across the country and establishing IIT Kharagpur as a hub of student-driven innovation.
The Platinum Jubilee celebration of IIT Kharagpur, marking 75 years of excellence, is a landmark occasion not just for the institute but also for key institutions like the Technology Students' Gymkhana. This anniversary celebrates decades of rich legacy, innovation, and a deep commitment to holistic student development. As part of the celebrations, special emphasis has been placed on the development of the iconic Gymkhana building and the surrounding lake area, ensuring they continue to provide a vibrant environment for activities and instill a lasting sense of pride for generations to come. The proposal for these enhancements is divided into two key areas: the development of the island and lake area, and the renovation of the iconic building, facilities such as toilets, and its surroundings.
The updates to the Gymkhana are expected to cost about $800,000.
