Education Built Us. Now We Build the Future.

Dr. Debajyoti Pal (1980/B.Tech/E&ECE):
Engineering Innovation from IITKGP to Global Technology Leadership

For more than four decades, Debajyoti Pal, PhD, Fellow IEEE, has built a distinguished career that exemplifies technical excellence, visionary leadership, and global impact. Currently based in Saratoga, California, Debajyoti leads the Automotive SerDes business at onsemi — a role in which he drives advanced high-speed connectivity solutions that are integral to the future of automotive electronics. In this capacity, he has helped shape technologies that support multi-gigabit data links between sensors, enabling smarter and more connected vehicles.

Debajyoti’s journey began with a strong foundation in engineering at the IIT Kharagpur, where he earned his Bachelor of Technology in electronics and electrical communications engineering. He continued his academic pursuit in the United States with a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Washington State University and went on to complete his PhD in electrical engineering at Stanford University under the mentorship of the Professor Thomas Kailath.

His professional journey is marked by both depth and breadth, spanning leadership roles across the technology spectrum. Debajyoti started his career at Intel Corporation, contributing to the design of early microprocessors, and went on to hold influential technical and executive positions at companies including AT&T Bell Laboratories, Ikanos Communications, Qualcomm, Wave Computing, and Cadence Design Systems. Notably, early in his career he co-founded Excess Bandwith Corporation with Professor Kailath — a pioneering company in high-performance integrated circuits that was later acquired by Virata Corporation — and subsequently founded Telicos Corporation in Sunnyvale, California, where he served as President and helped steer the company until 2004

Throughout his career, Debajyoti has been a pioneer in high-speed communications, semiconductors, signal processing, and machine learning applications, earning him election as a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) — one of the most prestigious honors in the field. His work has contributed to major advancements in broadband access technologies whose chipsets have shipped globally across telecommunications networks, touching millions of lives worldwide.

Beyond technological achievements, Debajyoti has also been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Scientists for his leadership and sustained contributions to information and communications technology. His career reflects not only a mastery of engineering principles but an ability to translate them into practical and widely adopted systems.

Debajyoti’s story is one of relentless curiosity and dedication, with roots at IIT Kharagpur that have flourished into a lifetime of global innovation. His path serves as an inspiration to fellow alumni and aspiring engineers, showing how strong fundamentals, lifelong learning, and leadership can create a legacy of impact across industries and continents.

Plant a Seed. Inspire a Future.
