Celebrating the Class of 2026 and a Vision for the Future

IIT Kharagpur celebrated its 72nd Annual Convocation, awarding 3,936 degrees, including 539 Ph.D.s, to the graduating Class of 2026. The ceremony highlighted not only the achievements of the graduates but also the Institute's expanding role in shaping higher education in India.

West Bengal's Higher Education Minister Jagannath Chattopadhyay called on IIT Kharagpur to mentor engineering colleges across the state by sharing its best practices in governance, research, innovation, and academic excellence. Director Prof. Suman Chakraborty reaffirmed the Institute's commitment to this vision, emphasizing IIT Kharagpur's transformation into a "distributed university" through initiatives such as the Outreach Course Network, which extends IIT-quality education and faculty mentorship to partner institutions nationwide. The Institute also highlighted its implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), including flexible curricula, double majors, micro-specializations, and the Academic Bank of Credits, reinforcing IIT Kharagpur's leadership in shaping the future of higher education in India.
